No matter how people look it, they cannot deny that reading has always been a significant part of human society. Students read books for educational purposes, while adults read the newspaper to get an update of the current issues facing their world. No matter what people read or what their purpose is for doing so, reading definitely contains many benefits and helps make a person become well rounded and well versed.

The most obvious benefit to reading is helping a person become more educated. It’s a fact that people who read regularly have more general knowledge and are more intelligent that those who don’t. A greater amount of general knowledge has been shown to correspond with better test scores, better overall academic performance, and ultimately a more fulfilling life. Reading is an excellent way to keep a person’s brain sharp throughout their lifetime, because reading continuously forces the brain to think and process information, keeping it very sharp and active.

When individuals are also faced with stress and adversity, sitting down with a good book can help them take their minds of their busy lives and relax. When a person is reading, their mind is distracted from its surroundings since it needs to devote all its energy to process the information that comes from reading. By reading, people are able to temporarily set their mind free and let it wander, allowing it to freely visualize and experience the text they may have just read. Reading provides a person a sense of tranquility that is often hard to find in their busy and active lives.

Reading will also really help a person improve their vocabulary. In fact, research has shown that reading is more effective in expanding a person’s vocabulary than any form of teaching. When we read, we are bound to come across words we are unfamiliar with, and in order to understand what we are reading, we research what those words mean. This is especially important for writers, who need to convey a professional and sophisticated tone in their writing. Even for people who aren’t writers, a wider vocabulary will help them express their thoughts more accurately and increase their communication skills.

Reading can also help a person put his or her life in perspective. As people read more and more, they will encounter some inspiring ideas or motivational stories that make them reflect upon their own lives. For example, imagine if there was person who dreamed of traveling the world, but never had enough guts to actually do so. If he were to come across and read the personal accounts of people who have been on the journey, he may discover what a great experience the trip was really like and perhaps be motivated enough to finally give the trip a shot. Reading makes a person think about what they want to accomplish life, and provides them with the motivation and encouragement to help pursue his or her vision.

All writers are faced with the dilemma of deciding whether or not they want to publish their work. Some people simply don’t want to deal with the lengthy process; others are afraid of their work being rejected by publishers. Despite the challenges that are associated with the publishing process, published authors have certain benefits that make all the time and effort they put into publishing a book all worth it.

First of all, a person will gain tremendous amounts of respect by making it as a published author. Many people have dreamed or thought about writing their own book, but very few are dedicated enough to take that dream and turn it into a reality. As a published author, you will have proven to everybody – but most importantly, proven to yourself – that you have the perseverance to accomplish the goals you set your mind to.

When becoming a published author, a certain amount of credibility is gained. When writers submit their work to be published, they are submitting their work to be peer-reviewed. The information readers obtain from an author’s work will have been reviewed by various experts in the same field of the topics discussed by the author. Thus, readers will treat the author’s published work as a credible resource, giving it more value than a similar article that was found randomly on the web.

As a published author, you will have established yourself as an expert in the field of work you wrote about. There are many clients who seek published authors to get there expert opinion on various topics in that field, so with credentials as a published author, clients are more likely to seek you out. Best of all, you have the right to charge those clients for your services, so there is that opportunity to earn some extra money in addition to being recognized as an expert.

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a published author are the fans who admire your work. It’s always a great feeling to know that you have impacted a person’s life or changed the way he or she thinks. The feeling of receiving an email from individuals telling you how their work influenced them is an indescribable feeling. Plus, fans help advertise your work through word-of-mouth, and will help attract attention and interest to pieces of your work you may publish in the future.

As you can see, becoming a published is not only extremely advantageous but also offers a very rewarding experience. Instead of keeping your writing to yourself, being able to publish your work for everyone to see and enjoy is such a more satisfying experience. The road to become a published author may be long, and it may be difficult, but the benefits that can be gained at the end absolutely outweigh the struggles.

Vickie Stringer’s Dirty Red is back. This time she’s on the run.

Having apparently wounded all of her enemies, and even her beloved Q, Red finds herself away from Detroit living the life of luxury in Arizona. She’s become a successful home broker with a bestselling book, and it seems as if all of her dirty tricks have finally paid off—from framing Detective Thomas to ruining Kera’s freedom. Unfortunately for Red, she’s made more enemies than she can count, and she soon finds herself running across the country in fear of them all while still being in love with Q. Everyone seems to have a reason to pay her the ultimate revenge, and even the most unlikely become partners if it means finally bringing an end to all of Red’s dirty schemes.

In yet another fast-paced and spiraling edition in this bestselling series, Vickie Stringer writes about a woman who will do anything to save her life and the people who go so low attempting to stop her.

I’m in the coffee shop debating with a close friend of mine about the amount of energy that it takes to be “down on your luck”. My friend is very successful and has recently been dealt a card that he feels is the end of the world but I’m on the other side of the table like. . “nigga, you pulled up in a Maserati. . How bad is yah life, nigga I drive a honda. .”. He ended up leaving and I went on to check my email only to see that there was a new interview of “VS” (for the lames that means, Vickie Stringer) by Black Voices very own Lynette Holloway.

VS expresses her views on the so called “bad reputation” of urban literature and how the industry will always try to find an angle to bring down something that is so great and empowering to the urban culture. She also drops the jewel that success comes down to how bad you want that shit. ..you can’t just sit around whining about how “so & so” said that it can’t be done. . .or that “so & so” is making big money on the other side of town doing what I want to do. GET YO ASS UP and make it shake!

Vickie Stringer just dropped a new book to the “Dirty Red” series, “Dirtier Than Ever” and let Black Voices know that she WILL be dropping two more books to this series. .so stay tuned.

View the original interview at Black Voices.

Real talk. . .women lie, men lie. . period. Men can marry a woman in Harlem and have a woman pregnant in the delivery room of Woodhull on the same day. Women can claim loyalty to a man in Newark and tell him that the baby is his and she will take the secret to the grave that the baby’s father is really he ex fuck buddy she used to hook up with down in Bmore.

In either case, You Knew Betta but you went against your better judgement cause either the dick is good or she is so fine that you are worried that you will never be able to bag another dime again if you let her trifling ass go.

Cachet tries to cature this reality in the novel “You Knew Betta”. She tells a twisted love story of a dude who has got the cake and is eat’n it too. One problem though. . .the chick he is smashing on the low done fucked around got pregnant and on top of that. . the bitch crazy!

Another classic Triple Crown urban story. While I dug the book over all and would recommend it to anyone commuting to work on the train or the bus.. . .I think I am just pissed at the realities that Cachet points out in this story. I mean after I read it I started doubting my girl. . . Damn you Cachet!!

I read a lot of fucking books. . .I mean a lot. . . so when Ms. Stringer brought this book to me. . .at first I was like. . “here we go again. . .another over exaggerated black mafioso story”. You know what I’m talking about, an unrealistic character in an unrealistic back drop doing some over the top shit like a fucking Rick Ross music video. I am here to testify that no only is this book not bullshit, it is a block buster classic. I was happily surprised and deeply engulfed in this story of a dude who is like a hit man for the Haitian drug lords. When dude is not killing muthafuckas, he spends his leisure time selling drugs in the hood . . I know, that shit sounds crazy right?

D. D. Carmine is a different author. Not the typical story teller and I can see why Ms. Stringer choose him. Carmine presents a look into the notorious drug wars that are going on even as I type this review between the Haitians and the Columbian cartel. Of course you can’t have drugs, murder, killing, voodoo, guns, knives and lots of money without love, loyalty, jealousy, betrayal and fine ass woman! Carmine understands this and hits you with an unseen twist in the story that ends up tying the whole story together.

Triple Crown raises the bar with this novel and I salute them for being innovative and being the biggest boss to this urban book thang.

Have you read this novel? What did you think? Comments are available below.

I love strippers. I mean I don’t “love” them but . . well you know what I’m saying. Women who are NOT strippers, prostitutes or gold diggers don’t (and may never) understand the core element behind these sexually driven professions. NO, it is not knowing how to clap your ass cheeks together. Its attention. Men need and love attention to the point that they will pay for it. Marion McCaulsky returns to Triple Crown Publications to release the sequel to his first novel, “Pink Palace”, with his sequel title “Pink Palace II”.

In the first novel, the main character was on some “woman on fire”, black woman scorned shit. It seems to end happily ever after but part two begs to differ. From life being peachy keen to life being fucked up, the main character gets back on her “hell hath no fury” swag and confronts the source of her problems which ironically turns out to be the Pink Palace and its boss hog drug dealer owner. Asses clapping, titties juggling, sex, money, murder and the quest to just live a normal life.

McCaulsky illustrates this story with all the bells and whistles a hermano like me needs to help keep those pages turning. I read this book in one weekend. I love to read when I’m taking a shit and this book was a perfect companion. Another Triple Crown “Banger”. Good job Marion!
